MIRROR, MIRROR ON THE WALL

6 (550x550)

The big debate is going on in my mind. Decisions need to be made about what to do for accents around the bed.

I am a lover of light so a mirror has always been in the picture. In my previous set-up I had two mirrors on the bed wall, one on each side of the bed above the night stands.

 Right side

Left side

I love these mirrors, and would gladly use them again, but they are a bit under scale for the size of the bed.

The other dilemma is one nightstand is a bachelor chest which is wider than the nightstand on the left so the spacing on the wall is different.

I love symmetry so the new spacing is a bit more obvious that it is different because of the width of the King bed vs. the old Queen bed.

This made me look at some new options…………

I absolutely adore  this room, and the round mirror above the bed is perfection. Notice the scale of the lamps! They are a good proportion for the size of the bed.

Don’t you think most people’s lamps on their night stands are too small? I really noticed that when I started looking around.

This is one of my favorite looks for a master bedroom. It is designed by none other than Phoebe Howard, who can do no wrong in my eyes.

Love the reading lights peeking out of the bed curtains. She also used lamps! The more light the better for me!!!

The only problem with this look, is it is a bit more formal than the relaxed look I am going for.

This is another good example of lamps being in scale with the bed. Love the mirror above the headboard. What a handsome room.

This is the actual catalog image from Ethan Allen of my bed. They chose to do a center mirror above the headboard too.

With this new look in mind, I went looking for some round mirrors that could possibly work……..

NUMBER ONE

NUMBER TWO

NUMBER THREE

(More rustic than the others but interesting!)

NUMBER FOUR

NUMBER FIVE

I am sure I will find other options, but I think these are all good choices.

I had my hubby bring in a round mirror from my family room to see how it would look, and as he is hauling it down the hall to the bedroom he announces………

“I can tell you right now I am NOT sleeping with a mirror above my head! If we had an earthquake it would kill us!”

SERIOUSLY!?
He is not willing to die for good design?

It looks as if Kathysue  has some mighty big convincing to do!!

Just for the sake of What-ifs??? Which mirror do you  like the best????

The Bed Is HERE!!

(The Before)

The new bed arrived yesterday and it gets to stay!! It looks just like I  envisioned. I am so pleased with it.

The new mattress was amazingly comfortable. We did not even have to adjust to the feel of it. I love having the extra sleeping space, and so does my hubby.

New Bed 010 (800x600)
(The During)

I knew that I would have to do a bit of tweaking to my room once the bed was placed.

It has a darker framework  than my previous headboard, which was cream. The room is no longer  all cream, white and blue.

New Bed 011 (800x600)

CHANGES TO BE MADE

With the touch of mushroom colored wood  I might need to add a basket that will carry the color of the wood to the other side of the room.

Possibly on top of the armoire. Although I hate to replace the pretty sea-glass bottles. We shall see?!!

Since the bed is an upholstered frame, and is larger in scale, the bedside lamps need to be a larger silhouette.

The mirrors above the nightstands also need to be taller.

I am not sure I will still have the mirrors above the nightstands, but I do love the open look it gives the room. This option is still being debated in my mind.

As far as the bedding I am quite pleased with an all white look.

I will still be tweaking the pillow situation. After much thought, and looking I have decided on two large pillows in the back, two standards in front, and an extra long lumbar in front with possibly a monogram.

I love the new look and I have already pinned some inspirational images that will help me decide the direction I would like to go.

Come back for my next post, and I will share the images that are inspiring me.

For now I will just enjoy my new bed, and dream of the changes to come……

Our View On Life Is A Choice

Sometimes Mondays can seem like Moandays. It is the beginning of the week, we have to go back to work, kids go back to school, or we just have to get on board, and take care of the responsibilities of family life.

In my lifetime I have discovered through life’s lessons that how I approach each day is my very own personal choice.

Even when it feels as if I have no control about the situation I always have control over how I view it or respond to it.

Recently our family went through a really difficult time. We lost a dear loved one. I am sure we have all had similar experiences through out our life time.

I think we can agree it is hard to see anything positive during a time like this.

I can only speak for myself, and I am not advocating that everyone  has to think like I do, but I did discover something very obvious in my own personal experience.

Sometimes we have to get to the lowest of lows. You know those times when all you can do is look outside of yourself and look up to a higher power.

For me my higher power is my Heavenly father.

I found that through out this very difficult time when I chose to see God’s hand he was always there.

I might see it in a nurse, hospice worker, or the sweet lady that came around to sing soothing, angelic songs to the patients.

There were the sweet people that brought my Mom meals, coffee, or water to help keep her comfortable.

Every where I turned, our needs were being met by the angels in human clothing.

My point in saying all of this is, if I had not been looking, or focusing on the good around me I would have been consumed by the truly painful things that were occurring.

It is a choice, and I am learning that more and more.

So today on this very Monday I choose happiness, goodness and God’s grace. I choose JOY!

  • Today I am thankful for:
  •

  • The loving people in my life.
  • The walk I took with my husband.
  • All the birds we saw.
  • The friendly people we saw on our walk.
  • The fact that I have food to eat, water to drink.
  • The beautiful weather.
  • My amazing shower that felt so good after my walk.
  • All the fresh fruit we bought from Costco

I am not trying to sound like a Pollyanna, but I truly have learned that  how I feel about life in general is a choice on my part.

I am going to use Mondays to be very conscience of the things in my life that I need to be thankful for. It seems to me like it is the perfect way to start our week.

If you would like to join me just leave a comment for something you are thankful for today.

I guarantee you that you will not have to look very far to find something.

Happy Monday to you all!!!

Great Ideas For Your Weekend!

It never ceases to amaze me how many clever, creative people there are in the world.

I love to be inspired and to think outside the box. It always helps to read blogs or go on Pinterest to see new and creative ideas.

The ideas that make me think, “Now why didn’t I think of that are the best ones!!”

Are You Ready For Some More
GREAT  IDEAS?!!

I love to recycle or re-purpose items and this is a good one. This clever person took their old detergent containers to hold the loose nuts and bolts in the garage.

I don’t know about you all, but my hubby has told me to never throw away a screw. He keeps them all, and I do men….. ALL!

I no longer have little ones around, but this is an idea that needs to be passed along. Cut a hole in the pacifier so it releases the medicine as the child sucks his/her pacifier. I think this is genius!!!

Another great idea for you Mom’s of little ones…….

Would you believe this activity tray for your carseat is only $9.95. Where was this when I had three little guys in the back seat?

This next idea is one of those that falls into the category of, “Why didn’t I think of this!”

Use tape to hold your bracelet in place as you click the latch. I can not tell you how many times I could have used this idea. Even if my hubby is home, his fingers are just to big to manipulate the latch. This is so simple, and practical!!

Another idea for those times you are alone, and need help to zip up your dress……..

Grab one of your long necklaces and put the hook in the little loop in the zipper and Voila!!!

Since we are talking about the back, check this out………

We have all seen these inexpensive rollers at the paint store. Well maybe they should start selling these at Bath and Body as a way to apply lotion to your back!!!!

"Technology Tickets". Each Sunday give the kids 10 tickets. Each ticket = 30 minutes (or whatever time limits your family decides on) of t.v., game system, computer, etc. Tickets can be used consecutively, but when they are out they are out for the week. **Love this idea!!!**

Speaking of the Kiddos this is a great way to have a snack on the road……..

Did you know that mice don’t like peppermint oil? Me either!!
Dab some on cotton balls and place wherever you have seen evidence of mice and it will deter them!! I am trying this for sure!!! Plus the extra added benefit of a nice fragrance!!!

This would be a great idea for a party favor, wedding favor or just a special treat during the Holidays. Use CD envelopes to hold homemade cookies. Love this idea.

I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend doing what ever you please!!! Which one of these ideas do you think you will be trying???

I am ……….

What Colors Do YOU like in YOUR Bedroom?

Design will always be subjective, and so will our color choices. I find when it comes to our bedrooms we will choose a color that gives us a particular feeling.

I know in choosing the colors for my master I definitely went for a feeling of tranquility that the ocean gives to me.

I wanted a soft, soothing, ocean feeling. Soft blues of the sky, white of the clouds, a soft linen color representing the sand and blues and greens found in the water.

When I enter my bedroom at night I have to say I take a deep sigh, and I am ready to be transported to a good nights sleep.

All the above images are of my very own master bedroom/bath area.

As you read in my previous post we will be getting a new bed (hopefully!)I thought I would show you some of the images that inspired me when we went looking for a new bed.

It was important to me that the new bed maintained the original look and feeling of the existing bed. Here are some of the rooms that inspired me………

This bed is very close to the look that my new bed will have. It has a darker frame with lighter fabric. It even has a bench at the end of the bed with a linen gingham fabric similar to mine.

I love the soft muted tones using mostly creams and whites.

The walls in this room are very similar in color to my wall color. I love the all white bedding. This is the direction I think I will be going.

Another all white bed with just a soft touch of color and an over sized bolster. I love an oversized bolster or lumbar pillow on beds or sofas. I am probably going to have a soft linen colored lumbar pillow made for my room.

The softness of blue and white is so appealing to me. I do find it hard to find just the right blue with just the right softness. It seems as if most of the blues I find are either to gray or a tad dark for my taste.

This room has all the colors that I love, plus a pop of green. I love the botanical leaf prints on the wall. Notice the monogrammed lumbar pillow, this is what I have in mind for my bed

This room is done in all white and linen. I find this very soothing also, but would love it more if the walls were a soft shade of blue. Gorgeous bedding!!

In this room blue is more dominant. It is equally as soft and soothing as a room with more white.

These are only a few of the rooms that inspire me, if you would like to see more you can go to my Pinterest boards, just click on any of the titles below and it will take your right to my inspiration boards….

I am curious, what color, and feel do you like for your own personal bedroom?

Bed update: I just received a call, and our bed is in a truck on its way to Ethan Allen!!
