Colors That Are Swirling Around In My Design Brain!

navy, cobalt to turquoise blues

Lately I have had my head wrapped around
this color scheme…..

Azure - Turquoise - Cobalt - Sapphire

Cool colors that remind me of the Beach, ocean, and the sky.

I want some of these colors in my home.

I already have a good base to place these colors in my family room.

My sofa is blue and white ticking…

A perfect base to add pillows in cool colors.

As always I am, “Enjoying The Process!” of coordinating fabrics for some summer pillows.
I am waiting for samples of fabrics so I can see how they read in the room.

ARE YOU READY FOR THE 4TH OF JULY?

I can not believe the 4th of July is less than a week away! Can you?

Great idea for the 4th of July centerpiece.

Do you need some ideas for the 4TH of JULY? You came to the right blog today!!

I like simple, easy, and not overly kitschy d├ęcor so I have found a few fun ideas for you that I would use if I were having a party on the 4TH.

(for a HOW-To, read Eddie Ross's Blog HERE!)

Simple carnation balls in white containers will always look festive. these are so easy to do with an oasis ball soaked in water over night before adding the carnations.

casual setting

This is such a simple place setting, use a place mat with a napkin on the diagonal for color. I love the simplicity of this, and I would totally use a look like this.

By using flour you can even have a star  greeting for your guest!

Leave it to Martha Stewart to do something so clever. I would love these oversized in the yard! Big is better less is more in my book!

Martha Stewart does it so well and simple

I hope you like some of these simple ideas! I tried to keep it uncomplicated and uncluttered.

Come back this week and I will have a post on some fun 4TH of July treats to eat that are easy to make!!

Cool, Relaxed, SUMMER Rooms!

In my last post I gave you some ideas on how to create a summer look in your homes.

Today I am going to share with you some images of rooms that say.....
...... “S-U-M-M-E-R!”

Notice the display on the shelves and the mantel. Great pillow choice for a summer look.

The rough wood of the coffee table reminds me of the color of driftwood.

A simple shell display on the shelves makes each shell more important.

Good choice in painting the back of the shelves a darker color so the white shells show up!

Baskets always add a great textural element to any room, but especially in a summer room!

By adding a small ocean inspired piece of art, this setting becomes Summerized!!

You can find all of the above images and more on my Pinterest board……

How To SUMMERIZE Your Home!!

I recently had a comment on my blog from one of my readers from Australia……… Melinda from Georgia Pond blog.
(If you have not visited her blog, be sure to do so, it is amazing and one of my favorites.)

Blogger Melinda said...

I'm always fascinated to read that you northern hemisphere dwellers change your rooms for the seasons and swap colours and accessories. We don't do that here in Australia, what you have just stays until you don't like it anymore and change it.

But we don't do cool colours for summer and warm colours for winter. I don't really like reds and other warm colours so I think I would be stuck. I just stick with what I love all year round.

I found her comment interesting and it made me think....
....... I have always changed for the seasons. Nothing life changing just a few elements here and there.

It just comes naturally to me, but after reading this comment I realized that maybe this would make a good  How-To blog post.

Where do you start!

A LIST OF ELEMENTS THAT MAKE YOU THINK OF SUMMER!

This will vary quite a bit from person to person and even from area to area.

When making your list try to think of varying textures, and favorite summer colors that you can incorporate easily into your existing space.

MY LIST:
  • Cool blues and greens
  • Sea shells or found objects from the beach
  • Clear vases or vases with blue or green tints.
  • Beach stripes
  • Baskets for texture
  • Fresh Ferns
  • Images of beach scenes
  • Sailboats
  • Lemons(reminds me of fresh cool lemonade)
  • Limes
NEXT……
Once your list is made you can begin the fun part!!

Clear your room of allllll the accessories  and elements you want to change out! Yes! ALL of them!

Now you have a clean slate to add your summer additions.

It will be up to you which elements you change out.

ELEMENTS THAT I LIKE CHANGE OUT:
  • Accessories
  • Pillows
  • Rugs
  • Artwork
  • LAMPS
  • BOOKS/MAGAZINES
I begin adding my summer additions with the larger pieces first. Lamps, artwork, larger accessories, and pillows.

Next I will fill in with the smaller pieces. With each item that I add I step back, and look to see how it changes the look, and feel of the room.

When adding each element look at the area you are going to place it, and decide if you need a shiny, smooth or rough texture in the area.

Also, do you need a pop of color or just a place for the eye to rest?! Remember not every single nook and cranny has to have something added to it in a room.

Remember to always step back and view the room as a whole after each new addition. You want your room to visually flow.

Now you are ready to enjoy your new
summer look!!!
